This is Part 2 of our Job Search Tips for 2018 – you can find Part 1 here.
- Stay on your toes
Stay in the loop on what skills are considered important in your industry as this may change as the industry evolves. Make sure you stay on your toes regarding what is acceptable and what is not – this will only increase your chances of success.
- Do not only aim at big companies
Most of us target big companies when job searching, probably because they are easier to find than smaller companies or because we hear of them often. Do not be afraid to apply at less popular companies. Most of the time, major corporations have stricter policies and processes in place, which make it harder to get your foot in the door. Large companies will also have a larger pool of candidates to choose from and will take much longer to get to your application.
- Get actively engaged in your industry
If possible, get involved with different platforms where you can share your knowledge and experience. These days it is common for companies to check candidates out on social media and even Google them – if they can see you being active in your industry, it will create a good impression of you. Join platforms where you can share industry news, tips/advice and interact with fellow co-workers.
